What’s an Air Taxi?

The service that we’ll be discussing in this article is not to be confused with flying cars, which also exist and go under the same name. In this case, the term air taxi is used to describe a private jet that operates on short routes.

When you hire an air taxi, you’re hiring an aircraft, which can be small, medium, or a big one. In any case, it’s going to be a jet that’ll take you from one place to another.

When Would You Need an Air Taxi?

There are several occasions when you would need an air taxi. It can be used regardless if you’re flying with a private jet or taking a commercial flight. Many times, depending on the destination you’re taking, you need to transit from one airport to another, in the same city.

Instead of driving for hours, let’s say from the LaGuardia Airport to JFK, you can take a small jet, also called an air taxi, and be there in mere minutes. By the way, this route takes approximately 12 minutes from one point to the other with an air taxi, but if you decide to go with a car, you’d have to drive for 1h or longer if there’s traffic.

Say you live somewhere outside of Paris, and need to be at the Charles de Gaulle airport at a certain time to catch a flight. If there’s a place nearby where a small jet can land, it can take you directly to the airport, so you don’t have to leave your house six hours prior to the flight.

What’s the Price Of an Air Taxi?

I assume this is the most important data you came to collect. Whatever we do in life, we have to know how much it will cost us in the end. Air taxis can be pretty pricey, but also affordable depending on several variables.

The price of your air taxi will depend on the number of passengers, the size of the jet, the destination you’re traveling to, and the time of making the reservation. Let’s take a look at the prices in regards to different routes.

How It Works

Note that in the table below, the prices are for renting a whole jet. Mind that the price is not per person, but should be divided by the number of travelers.

For example, if the flight costs $4,000, that means that two passengers would pay $2,000 each. However, if the jet can fit another two people to reach, let’s say it’s maximum capacity of four, each passenger would pay $1,000.

*Personal jet means that there won’t be other, possibly random passengers on board.

*A light jet is usually slower than the others and has a limited capacity for luggage.

Companies That Offer Air Taxi Services

The only thing left to cover is how to actually find and book an air taxi service. I did my research, so here are a few companies you can check out which are leaders in the industry.

Propair

propair

Propair is a company based in Quebec, Canada, with a lot of experience in chartering flights and leasing air taxis to passengers. It was founded in 1953 and has been a reliable company ever since.

The company operates with a fleet of 13 aircraft. Its main base is located at the Rouyn-Noranda Airport. Most flights it offers orbit around Canada and the US. That being said, Propair also offers jet maintenance, fuel handling, as well as cargo services.

SkyMax

skymax

SkyMax is not a regular jet chartering company, but it might be of interest to you if you have the need to transport cargo. Indeed, SkyMax is a company that will take care of your cargo, just note that it mainly flies around the US and the Caribbean.

The company has a fleet of four aircraft – two small-sized ones and two larger jets.

Airstream Jets

air stream jets

Airstream Jets is a private company based in Florida, US, which offers jet chartering services. The company is famous for its Distance Card, which gives prices to charters based on the miles it flies, rather than hours spent in the air.

The formula they use to calculate is total miles multiplied by price per mile. This way, you have a clear and transparent price that will stay the same regardless of the stops you make or the routes you change.

There is also an app that you can download to calculate the fee for chartering a jet. The company is good at keeping things fair and square, without any hidden fees or commissions.

Summary

Hopefully, by now you know what an air taxi is and are familiar with the prices in general, as well as the prices of the most famous routes, so make sure to check them once more.

Remember that air taxi is a term and doesn’t necessarily need to be a short-distance flight. There are several companies that offer this kind of service, which we listed above, so you can visit their websites and see what they have to offer.
