In 2021, it was reported that the ‘Luxury Tourism Market’ size exceeded USD 17 billion, and is projected to observe 15% CAGR from 2022 to 2030. This being said, travel accommodation platform, Airbnb, have been quick off the mark to add Luxury (Luxe) Airbnb’s to their portfolio, allowing users to browse and book some of the most elaborate and luxury accommodations around the world.
But which locations around the world have the best luxury Airbnb experiences available?
The team at Compare My Jet have analysed Airbnb’s Luxe offerings in 27 of their most popular luxury locations around the world. Looking at numerous metrics to find this out, these include; which locations have the most Luxe Airbnb’s available per visitor numbers, the average cost per night and the percentage of luxury accommodation available offering some of the most sought-after amenities.
The study also uncovers the best luxury destinations that can cater for larger groups, such as weddings or a Kardashian sized family reunion, as well as where you will find the most expensive luxury Airbnb’s around the world.
The Top 10 Luxury Airbnb Locations Worldwide
We scored each location according to their number of luxury Airbnb’s available in each location (per visitor numbers), the average cost per night and the percentage of accommodation available that offered guests a private pool, hot tub, gym and beach front location.

St Barts ranks as the top destination for Luxury Airbnb accommodation
Our ranking found that St Barths in the Caribbean is the top location for luxury Airbnb accommodation worldwide. The self-governing island saw 295,000 visitors in 2019, shutting down for non-EU passport holding visitors during covid). St Barth’s may be an exclusive location with a small number of visitors compared to other destinations, however, per visitor numbers, there are an abundance of luxury Airbnb accommodation options available (around 2,202 per 10,000 visitors). 74% of these include a pool, whilst one in eight are beachfront properties, meaning visitors lucky enough to book one of these properties can wake up and step straight onto the pristine white sandy beaches of St Barth’s.
Belize comes second in our ranking, due to the having one of the lowest costs for luxury accommodation on Airbnb (£841 per night on average), as well as the majority of the luxury accommodation available having some of the most sought-after guest amenities. 100% of Luxe Airbnb’s in San Pedro, Belize have a pool, hot tub and are beach front. However, it could be said that Belizeans don’t believe anyone should be spending their time working out whilst staying somewhere so luxurious, with none of the luxe Airbnb’s featuring a gym.
The Bahamas comes in eighth place in our ranking, with numerous luxury accommodation options available on the island, 87% with pools and 73% on the beach. However, the average cost for a night’s stay in a luxury Airbnb in the Bahamas is £4,742, making it the second most expensive place to experience a luxe Airbnb of all the destinations analysed (Antigua and Barbuda has the highest average cost per night for accommodation of all the destinations analysed at £11,072).
Austria lands in the bottom spot in our luxury Airbnb destinations rankings. Whilst still luxurious enough to be included in Airbnb’s top luxe list there are an extremely limited number of luxury accommodation options available per visitor numbers. Moreover, very few luxury Airbnb listings in Austria include some of the most sought-after amenities people will look for when booking a luxury travel property – such as a pool, hot tub or gym.
The best luxury locations for larger groups
Though many luxury properties have a large number of rooms, some locations are better accommodated for larger groups than others. To find out which locations have the most options for larger groups, such as wedding parties, we searched for the number of luxury Airbnb’s available with over eight beds. We then ranked the locations in order of the highest percentage of accommodation available with 8+ beds.

Canada is the best location for a large group luxury Airbnb experience
Canada comes out in top spot for its high percentage of luxury Airbnb accommodation that has over eight beds (68%). Most luxury Airbnb properties in Canada are in ski resorts that are highly sought-after, especially for large groups of friends and family that go on frequent ski trips together. Our study found that the average cost for a luxury Airbnb in Canada is around £3,476, the sixth highest cost of all the destinations’ average price for a night. However, if you’re going in a large group and splitting the cost then you may find that a luxurious group trip to Canada could work out cheaper than expected.
Dominican Republic comes in second for the best luxury Airbnb locations for large groups, with 60% of luxury properties available having over eight beds here. The average price per night for a luxe Airbnb here is around £3,004, however you will almost definitely get your own private pool with this (99%), ideal for a wedding or celebration.
France is the best luxury location for large groups in Europe. France comes in fifth place overall in this category, with almost two fifths (39%) of properties here having eight plus bedrooms available to accommodate large groups.
Belize, Fiji and Antigua and Barbuda are the most ill-prepared for larger luxury traveller groups

Though Belize and St Barths may be at the top of our overall rankings, they fall short when it comes to accommodating larger groups. With just 2% of St Barth’s luxury properties having eight plus beds, and none available in Belize (San Pedro Town). These locations are better suited for couples or smaller groups looking for a quiet luxury holiday away from the bustle of others, with the majority having an abundance of beachfront properties – some private to allow for a true off the beaten track experience.
Five of the most expensive Luxe Airbnb’s available around the world
Though most of the luxury properties on luxe Airbnb come with an eye-watering price tag to match, some have a heftier tag than others. Our team has analysed Luxe Airbnb to find the most expensive Airbnb’s available to rent worldwide.
France and Italy take up the five top spots for locations you will find the most expensive Airbnb’s
Of the five most expensive luxury Airbnb’s found, all five sit within Europe – specifically within France and Italy. France is home to the most expensive luxury Airbnb – Chalet Le Coquelicot can be found in Saint-Bon-Tarentaise, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France and can be rented out for around £27.6k per night. The chalet goes above and beyond for amenities including staff that can drive guests to the nearest ski lifts, wine cellar and theatre.
France is also home to another two of the most expensive luxury Airbnb’s our team found – Villa Amaya in Saint Tropez comes in fourth place at around £21.7k per night, complete with its own helipad, and Chalet Amber in the French Alps for around £21.1k per night, giving its visitors direct access to the slopes of the elite slopes of Courchevel.
Italy is also home to two of the most expensive properties available to rent on Airbnb’s luxe offerings. Both properties sit on the southern coast of Italy – Villa Luisa in Maiori, Salerno is the second most expensive property our team found on Airbnb, averaging £23.6k per night, and Villa Syrene in Sorrento comes in third place for most expensive Airbnb’s at around £22.6k per night, complete with romantic gardens and its own private boat dock.

Sources and Methodology
We looked at all the countries, and self-governed islands, listed on AirBnb’s Luxury destinations seed list. To find out results for: number of Luxe AirBnb’s; average price per night; number of stays with 8+ beds; most expensive stay, we filtered by country, prices for 1 adult for 1 week any time. For amenities we did this whilst additionally filtering by: pool, hot tub, gym and beachfront (with any number of beds).
To rank the locations, we scored the metrics average cost and number of luxe airBnb’s available (per daily visitor numbers) out of 10, we then scored the percentage of AirBnb’s available which included 4 of the most popular amenities (pool, hot tub, gym, beachfront) out of 5 to get an overall score. The country with the highest score is then ranked the top location for Luxury Airbnbs.
