The two most popular coastal cities in the United States, sunny Los Angeles and Miami, represent a route that’s connecting millions of people every year. Traveling from coast to coast is always a memorable experience, and renting a private jet is totally worth it.
This way, you’d have all the comfort you need to land rested in Miami, and continue with your day whether business or relaxing is on the agenda. In this article, you should learn what to expect in terms of private jet prices, time frames, types of jets, and private airports and FBOs, so let’s get started.

Los Angeles to Miami: Overview
Since it’s no secret that Los Angeles and Miami are located on two completely opposite sides of the country, it’s obvious that it’s a long, long way. Traveling by car or train is surely an adventure but you’d need at least two days to cover the 2,800 miles.
By private jet, you’d need some four to five hours, depending on the airports you’ll be taking off and landing at, as well as the type of jet you’ll choose. The only option that might take you there in over five hours is a turboprop plane, but most companies won’t even offer them anyway.
The most important thing to know is, of course, the price, which depends on factors such as date and time of the flight, type and size of the jet, and so on. However, a roughly estimated price range would go from $30,000 to $60,000.
Lastly, since this is a route many VIPs take, don’t worry about finding a perfect lounge to enjoy before and after the flight. You can find excellent, high-maintained fixed-base operators (FBOs) in both cities.
Now, let’s start with the cost of renting a private jet.

Pricing Options
As mentioned, prices differ a lot and depend on many factors, including the company you’ll choose to host your flight. Another thing is that most companies will only give you a flight price estimate once you’ve specifically contacted them to provide you with a so-called quote.
However, not all companies are that secretive, as The Aviation Factory offers information regarding prices from Los Angeles to Miami. Here’s what to expect.
Average Prices From Los Angeles to Miami (The Aviation Factory)
Aircraft type | Number of passengers | Los Angeles to Miami route price | Estimated flight time |
Light jet | 6 – 9 | $29,500 | 5 hours 5 minutes |
Midsize jet | 6 – 10 | $31,500 | 4 hours 35 minutes |
Heavy jet | 7 – 18 | $32,000 | 4 hours 35 minutes |
As you can see, if full capacity, prices don’t grow as the jet size grows. In this case, it would be most cost-effective to hire a heavy jet that fits 18 people in its cabin, since you’re paying for the whole aircraft, not per person.
Los Angeles to Miami Airports
With millions of passengers a year, you know that you can find a plethora of FBOs (fixed-base operators) surrounding the airports of the two cities. Let’s see what LA has to offer.

From Los Angeles International Airport to Miami
People most often choose the Los Angeles International airport, at least when they’re flying commercially. It has a pretty good location at only 17 miles to the southern direction from the city center. In about an hour by car, you’ll reach the airport, which has a couple of FBOs worth mentioning.
Some of the most popular and respected companies have invested in private terminals at this airport. The most famous FBO network, Signature Flight Support, runs a terminal here with all the high-end services and amenities included.
You can also choose FBOs run by Atlantic Aviation or Total Airport Services, both of which offer some amazing services and amenities which include spacious lounges, professional staff that will assist you with anything, conference rooms, and so on.
From Los Angeles Long Beach Airport to Miami
Long Beach Airport is usually more cost-effective since companies pay lower fees to use its facilities. This results in lower ticket prices and taxes, especially when you compare them with the fixed-base operators at or near Los Angeles International Airport.
The only drawback might be the fact that it’s located some 25 miles away from the city center, so reaching it is a bit more complex. However, a ride of a maximum of 45 minutes by car is all it takes to reach the facility.
More affordable prices still mean high-end FBOs, with Signature Flight Support running a private terminal at the airport, as well as Ross Aviation and OCR Aviation. You can visit the websites to find out more about the above-mentioned FBOs, but expect to receive nothing less than 5-star treatment.
From Los Angeles Van Nuys Airport to Miami
There are no commercial flights going on at Van Nuys Airport as it’s still used mostly by the army. It’s located some 22 miles east of the city’s downtown, meaning that you need an average of 30 minutes by car to reach it.
Private flights are quite common at Van Nuys, with more than enough fixed-base operators running their own operations. Here’s a couple of FBOs that you can find in the area that should meet your demands.
From Los Angeles John Wayne Airport to Miami
The original Orange County Airport had its name changed in the ‘70s, with the booming popularity of Hollywood’s star actor John Wayne, so the airport now has probably one of the coolest names in the world.
This is a popular airport of the O.C. area, or L.A.’s greater area, and remains one of the favorite spots of private flyers. It is, however, pretty far away, as it takes 40 minutes by car to be reached. The good news is that it has a big choice of private terminals. Here they are:
- AciJet;
- Clay Lacy;
- Mac Air;
- OCFC (Orange County Flight Center);
- Sta Jets;
- Royal Aviation;
- General Aviation;
- Regency Air.
Miami Airports
Los Angeles and Miami are pretty similar in terms of airport infrastructure. Just like Los Angeles offers enough capacities for private flying, Miami will not leave you hanging. The city is served by three different airports, Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, and Palm Beach International Airport, all of which can be your private flying hub.
Miami International Airport (MIA)
Miami International is the most popular airport in the city so it attracts a lot of people regardless of whether they’re flying private or commercial. This is a crowded airport, but you can find your peace at the FBO run by Signature Flight Support, where you’ll find everything you need.
Miami International operates with a smaller airport called Miami Executive Airport (KTMB). It’s this airport that’s more suitable and dedicated to private flying. Within the airport, you’ll find many fixed-base operators and ground handlers run by Signature Flight Support, International Flight Center, and Reliance Aviation. Each of these is equipped with the best amenities and you’ll be treated like royalty by their highly professional staff.
Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
If you’ve been a regular guest to Miami, I’m sure you’ve heard of their Hollywood. Well, it’s a thing and there is an airport that hosts many famous fixed-base operators run by Jetex, Signature Flight Support, Sheltair Aviation, National Jets, Jetscape.
The experience should be as expected regardless of which one you choose. Every FBO that I decide to list meets the criteria, meaning that they have the best staff, cozy lounges, extra services, and a place to have proper rest, like snooze rooms.
Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)
Palm Beach is another airport that hosts private flights and that is quite popular among the clientele. It’s surrounded by famous brands and names representing different fixed-base operators. Those would be Signature Flight Support, Atlantic, Jet Aviation, NetJets, and Great Flight.
This Signature Flight Support FBO is known to be one the best in the world, according to many reviews. It has earned this unofficial title due to the excellent features and amenities, such as showers, VIP lounges, conference rooms, car rental unit, meeting and business center, and so on.
However, if you’re flying your own jet and wouldn’t mind a quick check-up before you take off again, Atlantic and Jet Aviation should be your choice. You will get services there such as maintenance, fueling, or storage in one of their huge hangars.
If you like your flight tailor-made, contact NetJets or Great Flight. They will make sure to meet your demand and have your favorite snacks, foods, and drinks available at your flight and lounge.

Which Jet Models Can Fly You to Miami From Los Angeles?
Flying from Los Angeles to Miami is going to take you at least four hours, if not more than five. The only type of jet that’s not suitable for this trip are turboprop planes so I will refrain from the kind in this article. Note that it is possible, especially if you stop to refuel, but it’s going to take its toll in comfort and longer travel times.
Air Charter Service doesn’t offer any light jets either, so I’ll be recommending midsize and heavy jets for this flight only, which is the best option for this trip anyway.
Midsize Jets
There are some excellent and elegant midsize jets that are going to make your flight as smooth as possible.
Such is the Challenger 604 which can be rented for some $34,500 and needs 4 hours and 35 minutes to cover this route. It’s quite spacious and can fit up to 12 people in its cozy cabin.
Another midsize that you could pursue is the Learjet 35A which is not as big as the Challenger above but is designed to provide more comfort. The cabin comprises both seats and a sofa and is suitable for 8 passengers. It’ll reach Miami in 4 hours and 45 minutes from L.A. and will cost you some $37,000 to hire.
The Hawker 800XP is more or less going to cost you the same as the 35A, but it’ll provide you with a spacious cabin for 9 people. It also has the same flight time estimation as the jet above, so take your time to think if you’re having a dilemma between the two.
Well, the Learjet 60XR is obviously a cool choice due to its elegance and spacious cabin. It can take 8 people on board and has WiFi access, and you can even take your pet with you. It needs exactly 4 hours and 30 minutes to reach Miami and will cost you some $44,500.
You could also take into consideration the Challenger 300 which is also pet-friendly and has Internet access. It’s a bit more expensive to rent than the Learjet at $47,500 but can fit 10 people. Travel time is also identical to the Hawker 800XP.
Heavy Jets
If you want to take your private flight to the next level, you should consider hiring a heavy jet. This should result in more comfort, somewhat faster travel times, and better services in the jet.
One of the better heavy jets that you could consider for your trip from Los Angeles to Miami is the Gulfstream G-IVSP. This is an ultra-modern jet that has a wonderful walk-around cabin that fits up to 16 people. There is WiFi access, it’s suitable for pets, and needs 4 hours and 30 minutes to reach the destination. The rental price to pay for this one is around $48,500.
Another great choice would be the Challenger 601 which will amaze you with its gorgeous cabin comprising two sofas facing one another, and additional seatings bringing the capacity to a number of 12 people. The jet can be yours for the trip for some $60,000 and it will reach Miami in 4 hours and 45 minutes.
The Global 5000 is another heavy jet that I would gladly recommend. It’s made to fit 14 people, it’s pet-friendly, has access to the Internet, and smoking is available. Renting it would cost you around $61,000 and the travel time is estimated at 4 hours and 25 minutes.
Finally, I would single out the Falcon 50 EX due to its magnificent and modern cabin, providing more than enough space for 9 people. This jet will cost you around $62,000 to rent and will reach your destination in 4 hours and 50 minutes.

Conclusion
While it’s always exciting to plan a trip, there are a couple of things that have to be remembered at all times.
Make sure to contact more private airline companies to ask about prices, flight duration, and conditions. This route demands a midsize or heavy jet, although it’s possible to travel by a smaller jet if you don’t mind the stops for refueling.
The price can go from $30K to $60K and over, depending on the jet model and size. Estimated flight time circles around 4 hours and 30 minutes, and you should have no problem finding the perfect FBO in both Los Angeles and Miami. Happy travels!
