New York and Miami, known for their rich history, magnificent architecture, and unforgettable parties, are some of America’s most famous cities. But there’s one thing Miami has that the Big Apple doesn’t – exotic beaches that are worth every dime.
So it’s no surprise that the New York – Miami route is extremely popular, and the best way to travel is by flying private.
In general, a private jet flight from New York to Miami can cost anywhere between $11,000 and $19,000, depending on the size of the jet, the airports you’ll use for take off and landing, and the number of passengers. The estimated flight time is some three hours for the 1,200 miles between the two cities.
If you want to know more details about the airports you can use, the types of jets you can rent, how much it’ll cost you, and how many passengers can get on board, read on.

New York to Miami Airports
As you could see in the previous paragraph, the price range is quite big, differing by some $8,000, and that’s mostly because of the plane size. You can choose to fly with a turboprop plane, or rent a light, midsize, or heavy jet. Moreover, the airports in both New York and Miami, which are surrounded by many FBOs, will also dictate the price.

From New York (JFK) to Miami International Airport
When flying anywhere from New York, the John F. Kennedy airport is most people’s first choice. The same goes for Miami’s International Airport.
To hire a light jet from JFK to Miami International, you’ll have to spend $11,400, according to the-aviation-factory. Prices might change if you consult other companies, but they all orbit around this figure. A light jet will take you to Miami in 2 hours and 55 minutes, and you can board up to nine people.
You also have the option of a turboprop plane, but I don’t really recommend it for this route. It takes too long, up to four hours, and the price is slightly higher – $11,750. You will probably get more comfort and space but for the price of a longer flight, so I’d say you skip it.
A midsize jet might be a better choice. This type of jet is quite bigger than the previous two, but doesn’t necessarily fit more people as it can fit up to 10 passengers, but you’ll have much more seat comfort and leg space. It’s more expensive, too. A flight from New York to Miami will cost you $14,650, while the flight time is estimated at 2 hours and 40 minutes, the fastest one so far.
Finally, a step further will get you a heavy jet, which is usually meant for bigger parties. In this case, the-aviation-factory shows that up to 16 people can board a heavy jet from New York to Miami, which will take them to the destination in 2 hours and 35 minutes.
This type of jet will also cost you a bit more – $18,550.
Note that the prices given are before taxes and fees, which are usually applied.
Type of jet | Estimated time | Number of passengers | Price (one-way) |
Turboprop plane | 4 hours | 4 – 9 | $11,750 |
Light jet | 2 hours and 55 minutes | 5 – 9 | $11,400 |
Midsize jet | 2 hours and 40 minutes | 6 – 10 | $14,650 |
Heavy jet | 2 hours and 35 minutes | 9 – 16 | $18,550 |
About The Airports
John F. Kennedy is perhaps the world’s most famous airport, or at least most people have heard of it. But as a private jet passenger, you’re interested in the private terminals, or FBOs, and there are a few around JFK. For example, you have the Sheltair Aviation FBO near the airport, and this is one of the most famous private terminals people use when traveling privately.
There are other choices as well, such as the private facility run by Allied Aviation, which seems to have lower fees than Sheltair, but I cannot be sure about that. If you contact the service provider, I’m sure you can get the right answer. Allied Aviation is not just an FBO but also provides different services such as maintenance, fueling, or infrastructure development.
JFK is easily reachable for New York’s downtown. It takes an hour and a half by car if there is traffic on the 20-miles long road. Public transportation is also an option, but it might take you a bit longer. If you go to Times Square, there are always vans and shuttles to take you directly to JFK.
On the other hand, Miami International Airport is easily reachable from any point in Miami, just like everything else in this city, I guess. Regardless of your position, you should reach the airport by car in a maximum of 35 minutes, without traffic.
The airport has a significant number of private terminals, or FBOs if you like. One of them is operated by Signature Flight and is the most famous one. The airport also has the Munser FBO, a company providing services since 1992. With Munser, be sure that you will get great treatment, luxury lounges, and fantastic catering services. Moreover, the classic AirNav can also host your flight, and you shouldn’t have any hesitations about it.

New York Teterboro Airport to Miami Executive Airport
These airports are a bit smaller than the previous pair, but they attract a lot of passengers every year. However, what interests us the most here is the price to get from New York to Miami flying between Teterboro and Miami’s Executive airport.
The cheapest variant is to take a turboprop plane, which will take you to Miami in 4 hours and 15 minutes. To make this flight, you must pay $11,450 before taxes and fees. The plane can take on board a maximum of 19 people if you book it through the-aviation-factory.
Another way of flying is by a light jet. This one will cover the route much faster, in 3 hours, and the price amounts to $11,700. This jet can take up to nine passengers, and offers nice comfortable seats, with plenty of room around them.
Of course, you can take it one step further and hire a midsize jet for $12,700. This is good for a semi-large group, counting a maximum of 10 people who would like to enjoy their own comfort during a flight. The plane takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to cover the route.
A heavy jet would be an option for you if the party counts double the previous one. This plane can take on board a maximum of 18 people and will take you from Teterboro to Miami Executive in 2 hours and 40 minutes. You will need to pay $19,200 before fees and taxes to hire this jet.
Type of jet | Estimated time | Number of passengers | Price (one-way) |
Turboprop plane | 4 hours and 15 minutes | 5 – 19 | $11,450 |
Light jet | 3 hours | 4 – 9 | $11,700 |
Midsize jet | 2 hours and 45 minutes | 6 – 10 | $12,700 |
Heavy jet | 2 hours and 40 minutes | 8 – 18 | $19,200 |
About The Airports
Teterboro is always a good choice when you travel from or to New York. The trick is that it’s located on New Jersey’s side of the Hudson River, which means that it doesn’t undergo crazy fees and tax money like it would if it was stationed at Manhattan.
If you’ve ever been to Jersey, you know that it doesn’t take you more than half an hour to reach it from Times Square (depending on your exact location), so why not take off from there? On the plus side, Teterboro might be an airport with the most FBOs surrounding it.
Some of the most famous operators running these private facilities are Signature Flight, Sheltair, and Jet Aviation. Although these are the names that sound most familiar to our ears, Teterboro has other private terminals around it. Here’s a shortlist:
- Air Bound Aviation;
- Atlantic Aviation;
- Meridian Teterboro;
- Greenwood Lake Aviation
- Ross Aviation;
- Million Air White Plains;
- Linden Airport Management;
- Lynx FBO Network.
For landing, choosing the Miami Executive airport is a pretty smart move as well. The airport that was until recently known as Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport is located some 15 miles southwest of Miami’s central area. You can imagine the distance, and I can tell you that you won’t need more than 25 minutes by any means of transportation to reach it. Public transport might take a bit more.
Teterboro seems to have the most FBOs in its surrounding area, but Miami Executive has its share as well. You can easily spot private facilities operated by Signature Flight Support, which is always my FBO of choice when I land at this airport.
Moreover, there are private terminals run by International Flight Center Miami, offering amazing services. Another FBO worth checking out is the one operated by Reliance Aviation Miami.
Jet Models To Take You From New York To Miami
In the text above, we mostly talked about different jet sizes. Now, let’s see what jet models you can actually expect to take you from New York to Miami. For this purpose, I’ll be using info from the Air Charter Service website.

Bombardier Learjet 35
This light jet is perfect for a party numbering up to eight people, although I’d say that a group of six would feel most comfortable and could use all the amenities and space with ease.
Hiring this jet will cost you around $12,500 to go from NY to Miami. The plane will need approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to cover the whole route, as it’s able to develop a maximum speed of 540 miles per hour (MPH).
The jet provides maximum comfort for the passengers, as it’s equipped with large comfy seats with plenty of legroom. There is also an entertainment center inside the plane, and if you book it via Air Charter Service, the price will include a flight attendant.
King Air B200
The King Air B200 is another model of the Beechcraft King Air series. It’s a turboprop plane that is a bit bigger than the Learjet 35. You can take on board up to 8 people, and it’ll cost you around $15,800. It’s also slower than the previous jet, as it needs almost 4 hours to reach Miami with a maximum speed capacity of 332 miles per hour.
But what King Air B200 misses in speed, it makes up in comfort, providing a large cabin that gives the passengers plenty of shoulder and legroom, hence the higher price.
Citation CJ1
This is such a fancy and good-looking jet that’s mostly meant to be used by a smaller group of five people that want to take out the maximum pleasure of a private flight.
It’s a bit expensive, as it will cost you around $16,000 to hire it. It’s pretty fast though with its maximum speed of 411 miles per hour. It’ll take you from New York to Miami in about three hours, out of which you will enjoy every minute in the spacious luxury cabin.
Conclusion
New York and Miami are some of the most popular destinations in the US. There are plenty of ways to travel from one to another by private jet. The average amount of money that you’ll spend on such a trip is $15,000, depending on the time, date, jet, and airports you’ll be using.
Luckily, both cities have well-developed airports with plenty of FBOs surrounding them. I recommend that you always check every option you have, every jet and airport, before booking your flight. This type of traveling shapes the price in a very delicate way, and simple things like cabin size can make a huge difference.
So, do more research, and make sure you’ve hired the perfect private jet for your trip!
