Rome oozes culture and sophistication. Drinking fine wine on the Piazza, indulging in one of the many fine-dining options, or shopping in the countless designer boutiques. You’re seriously spoiled for choice in the Italian capital.
Rome has the advantage of being situated close to many neighboring countries, so it’s easy to dash off for a spot of lunch elsewhere. Charting your own private jet makes it even more convenient. And, when you’re ready to return to the delights of Rome, your private plane will be waiting to take you.
Rome is very well-connected and firmly on the map as one of the most popular destinations for private flyers. Here are some of the most traveled routes you can enjoy with a jet charter in 2022:
Dying to get to Rome? Let’s go into the detail of these favorite spots.
Topics
1. Private Charter: Venice to Rome
Venice is also in Italy, but it deserves mention because lovers of the Italian culture enjoy fitting in both cities during their time in Europe.
Venice is only 326 miles (526 km) from Rome, so it’s a very short journey by plane – about an hour in total. Prices begin at €6,100 for a turboprop. I thoroughly recommend this type of aircraft for a short journey because you can enjoy the scenery as you fly.

The prices reflect the short distance and are very reasonable. Unless you’ve got a very large party traveling with you, go for the smaller-sized jets to avoid paying more than necessary.

Marco Polo Airport
Since Venice exists entirely upon the water, space is limited. Therefore, you’ll only find one airport you can fly out from – Marco Polo Airport (VCE).
A shuttle will take you from the city centre in about 20 minutes. If you’d prefer more privacy and to travel in ultimate style, you can take a water taxi, which also takes about 20 minutes.
Marco Polo airport will handle your private flight charter with ease. The airport boasts the Marco Polo VIP club lounge with everything you’d expect from a luxury travel experience. Three FBOs also operate out of Venice airport:
2. Private Charter: Zurich to Rome
As well as serving as a major business hub for finance, Zurich’s close proximity to many upmarket ski resorts makes it a well-traveled route.
Taking less than an hour and a half, Zurich is a short hop from Rome and allows you to get a bite on the plane before landing. Prices are from €5,740 and the light jet is the preferred option for this route.
Zurich to Rome: Pricing Options
Here’s the rundown of prices for Zurich. I recommend the light jet as the better option simply for the speed and comfort.

Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport (ZRH) is situated to the northeast of the city and a taxi or limousine service will take you to the airport from the city center in a mere 15 minutes.
If you’ve been there for pleasure, you can charter a helicopter from many of the ski resorts to the airport in around 45 minutes. You can pretty much go from the slopes and straight onto the plane.

3. Private Charter: Paris to Rome
Two vibrant cities that are bursting at the seams with incredible things to see and do.

Paris to Rome: Airport Options
Being the major international city that it is, Paris has a plethora of options available for your private charter. Three airport choices await you:
- Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
- Orly (ORY)
- Le Bourget (LBG)
Paris Charles do Gaulle
Charles de Gaulle is the largest airport in Paris and is 35km north of the centre of Paris. The express train is very convenient, taking 30 minutes from the city center to the airport in total.
As the leading international airport in France, this is where most long-haul flights arrive and take off.
You can find one FBO in Charles de Gaulle:
Additionally, VIP services include Jetex’s own boarding area and lounge, a VIP lounge and terminal in the main airport, and a special VIP terminal that is used by royalty, heads of state, celebrities, etc. You can use it but you must first request it and pay the fee.
Paris Orly
Orly is on the other side of Paris in the south. This location is convenient if you’re arriving from other areas of France that are more southern. The airport is 18 km from the city centre and close to Versailles. Orly doesn’t have any FBOs on site. That said, you can still arrange for your private charter to take off and land here.
Paris Le Bourget
Since you’re flying by private charter, you may prefer Le Bourget over the other options. Le Bourget only hosts private charters and is not available for commercial flights. The airport is situated in the north of Paris but closer to the centre than Charles de Gaulle.
If you must dash right back to Rome after your Parisian rendezvous, you’ll find Le Bourget is your most convenient option.
Seven FBOs await you here, so you have plenty of choices. Since the airport caters exclusively to VIP clients, you’ll find the amenities, lounges, and other facilities are top-notch.

Which Jets Can Fly You To Rome?
With so many beautiful jets at your disposal, which one do you choose?
It mostly depends on the length of your journey with lighter crafts being better for short hops to Rome. Long-haul journeys are definitely preferable with midsize or heavy jets.
Let’s look at them in more detail, including some of my favorite jet models.
Turboprops
If you’re planning many short trips and using Roma as a base, then a turboprop is ideal. These small propeller-based planes are quick and efficient for flights that are about an hour in length. If you’re popping over to Switzerland, France, or Germany from Rome, then you should choose a turboprop.
Built to handle short runways, these small crafts can achieve 300 knots with a range of 1,500 miles (2414 km).
The Twin Diamond Star is a beautiful-looking turboprop. You get a similar space to that of a saloon car. You can sit in or directly behind the flight deck and take in the outstanding views as you travel to your destination.
Light Jets
Also a small aircraft but minus the propellors, light jets are faster and can travel for longer. Traveling from London to Rome, for example, is more comfortable in a light jet. Capable of achieving a 1,700 mile (2735 km) range, this speedy little craft can get up to 400 knots.
For the ultimate in business travel, try the Embraer Phenom 300 / 300E. The stylish design is capable of reaching the maximum range of a light jet and with a spacious cabin (for a small craft) you can kick back in comfort.
Midsize – Super Midsize Jets

For the best of speed and comfort you want a midsize jet. This is the most popular option for private charters as you get a generous-sized cabin for you and your traveling companions. These crafts can go up to 460 knots and with a range of 2,200 (3,540 km), you’ll be at your destination in no time.
The Swiss-designed Pilatus PC-24 features the precision engineering that Switzerland is renowned for. It has been designed to effortlessly handle shorter runways, which gives you more flexibility about where you land.
A spacious cabin and luggage hold makes this model the aircraft of choice for many travelers.
Heavy Jets
As the name suggests, these jets are large, heavy, and a great choice if you have a large entourage or need to go long distance. For example, you’ll need a heavy jet to get yourself from Hong Kong to Rome. Reaching 6,000 miles (9656 km) with top speeds of 521 knots, spacious cabins, and plenty of room for luggage, heavy jets tick all the boxes.
If the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) is good enough for major world governments, then it’s good enough for you! Featuring an excellent range and superb comfort and style, The Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) is the only way to travel long-haul.
Conclusion
As roads and highways continue to get busier and more congested, it’s no wonder that chartering your own private jet has become the most convenient way to get around.
As they say, “all roads lead to Rome” and in the case of private charters, it’s most certainly the case. With so much choice and convenience on offer, how could you not explore?
