1. Glasgow to Edinburgh

While Edinburgh has the history, Glasgow has the culture. Scotland’s second-largest city is known for its rich art scene and is a UNESCO site for music.

The two cities are only an hour apart by road, but why not take the scenic route by flying in a turboprop? What better way to see the view than from above? The journey takes less than half an hour and costs £2,910.

Glasgow to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

All types of jets take roughly the same amount of time so pick the one that suits your luggage and passenger requirements.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Aircraft TypeNo of passengersPriceEstimated flight time
Turboprop4- 19£2,91025 min
Light Jet4 – 11£3,31230 min
Midsize Jet6 – 10£5,13025 mins
Heavy Jet6 – 96£5,97825 mins

Glasgow to Edinburgh: Airport Options

Glasgow has two airports to choose from and both are equipped to accommodate private flyers:

  • Glasgow Airport (GLA)
  • Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK)

Glasgow Airport

Glasgow airport

Glasgow airport is 13 miles (20 km) west of the city centre and is easily reachable by car. A taxi will take about 20-minutes. Surprisingly, the Glasgow Airport Express bus service is quicker and only takes 15-minutes. If you’re arriving from one of the nearby exclusive golf courses, you can arrange a helicopter transfer in minutes.

The airport’s general aviation terminal welcomes private flyers, and here you will find a high-class lounge, fine dining options, and VIP services.

Signature is the onsite FBO, and it offers its usual top standard of service to its VIP customers.

  • Signature Flight Support

Glasgow Prestwick Airport

This airport is 32 miles (51 km) southwest of Glasgow and serves as west Scotland’s main airport. A taxi to the airport from central Glasgow takes the best part of an hour, while helicopter transfers are much quicker and easily arranged.

The main airport has no lounges or VIP services, but you can find everything you need in the three onsite FBOs. Prestwick Aviation is the leading FBO and has an entire executive facility to welcome guests. Here, you will find a lounge and comprehensive VIP amenities and services:

  • Prestwick Aviation Services
  • Greer Aviation
  • Ocean Sky Corporate

2. London to Edinburgh

From one major UK city to another, it’s not surprising that London has made this list. London is to England as Edinburgh is to Scotland. They are both key in business, financial and political matters, so the route is well-trodden by VIP passengers.

A light jet serves this route best since it is the fastest (1 h 10 mins) and cheapest option.

London to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

The turboprop is the most expensive option because of the longer flight time. Therefore, you may prefer the light jet or even the midsize jet if you travel with companions or additional luggage.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Aircraft TypeNo of passengersPriceEstimated flight time
Turboprop4- 19£8,7311 h 25 min
Light Jet4 – 11£6,6241 h 10 min
Midsize Jet6 – 10£10,2611 h 05 mins
Heavy Jet6 – 96£11,9561 h 05 mins

London to Edinburgh: Airport Options

London is very advantageous for the private flyer due to the sheer amount of airports it boasts. Five key airports await you for your private jet charters to Edinburgh:

  • Stansted (STN)
  • Gatwick (LGW)
  • Heathrow (LHR)
  • London City (LCY)
  • Biggin Hill (BQH)

London Stansted

Stansted is the farthest away from London but is the airport of choice for private flyers. Many FBOs are based here.

The airport sits 40 miles ( 60 km) northeast of the city centre. The train from Liverpool St takes 40 mins and a taxi far longer. Many private flyers enjoy the convenience of arranging a helicopter transfer which will have you there in around 20-minutes.

There are so many FBOs here that it’s impossible to detail them all. But you can expect all to offer high-quality facilities, services, and amenities to make your departure easy and comfortable:

  • Inflite Jet Centre
  • Harrods
  • Universal Aviation
  • Inflight The Jet Centre
  • The Diamond Hangar
  • Fayair
  • Infinite Jet Center;
  • X Jet London;
  • London Jet Center;
  • Antonov Airlines UK;
  • North Air Ltd;
  • Titan Airways;
  • London Jet Charter;
  • Inflite The Jet Center;
  • NATS Jet Stansted;
  • Aeronexus;
  • GT Engine Services;
  • Swissport.

London Gatwick

Gatwick’s large international airport is situated 30 mins south of London by direct train from Victoria. I don’t recommend a taxi here as the journey can be lengthy due to traffic.

Gatwick has two terminals, each with private facilities, such as executive lounges, boutiques, and concierge services. If you prefer, you can employ the services of the two onsite FBOs. Each has an array of VIP services and can arrange your private jet charters to Edinburgh:

  • Delisky
  • Signature

London Heathrow

Heathrow airport

If you thought Gatwick was big, Heathrow is a giant. With four terminals, it serves as the busiest airport in the UK. From central London, the airport is very convenient to reach as the direct train from Paddington only takes 15-minutes.

Terminal 4 is where you will go for your private jet charter. Here, you will find a lounge, private parking, and other VIP services at your disposal. Two FBOs operate at terminal 4, and they’ll be happy to arrange your private jet to Edinburgh.

  • Signature
  • Dnata Private Aviation

London City

This tiny airport is next to the Royal Docks in the London Borough of Newham. You won’t find many facilities here, so head to the one FBO situated close by, which has a comfortable lounge and can arrange your jet charter:

  • London City Jet Centre

Biggin Hill

This airport is a mere six-minute helicopter ride from the city centre and is set up to accommodate business travellers. Biggin Hill is another small airport, so you will need to employ the services of the two onsite FBOs for your jet charter. They also have lounges and amenities to make you comfortable.

  • Biggin Hill Executive Handling
  • Signature

3. Munich to Edinburgh

Munich is famous for its beer and is host to the world-famous Oktoberfest festival. It’s also a cultural hotspot with many historical buildings and monuments to enjoy. The city also serves as one of Europe’s most critical finance centres, making this a highly travelled route for business purposes.

Taking less than two and a half hours, a light jet will take you to Edinburgh for £9,936.

Munich to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

This route is a little too long for the turboprop to manage in one go, so the light jet is the most economical choice here.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Aircraft TypeNo of passengersPriceEstimated flight time
Turboprop4- 19£17,463 (€20,118)3 h 10 min
Light Jet4 – 11£9,936 (€11,447)2 h 20 min
Midsize Jet6 – 10£20,522 (€23,643)2 h 05 mins
Heavy Jet6 – 96£23,912 (€27,548)2 h 05 mins

Munich to Edinburgh: Airport Options

Munich is a fairly small city, but its one airport is quite large and well-equipped for private flyers.

Munich International Airport (MUC)

Minich’s major airport is 18 miles (30 km) northeast of Munich city centre. You can take a taxi and get there in around 40-minutes, or the S1 and S8 S-Bahn lines, which go directly there in the same amount of time.

The general aviation terminal is where you will find VIP lounges and facilities. Additionally, three onsite FBOs can provide you with private services and charter your private jet to Edinburgh.

  • MAS Munich Aviation Service
  • Execujet Europe
  • Signature Flight Support

4. Bordeaux to Edinburgh

A major city in France, Bordeaux is a bustling city and home to some of the world’s best wines. A quick trip outside Bordeaux will find numerous vineyards, chateaus, and exclusive Atlantic coast resorts.

If you’ve been sampling the delights of Bordeaux and are ready to head to Edinburgh, you can do so in just over two hours. A light jet is the cheapest option and costs £13,248 (€15,262).

Bordeaux to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

A turboprop will require a refueling stop on this route so opt for the light jet since it’s cheaper and faster.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Aircraft TypeNo of passengersPriceEstimated flight time
Turboprop4- 19£17,463 (€20,118)2 h 55 min
Light Jet4 – 11£13,248 (€15,262)2 h 10 min
Midsize Jet6 – 10£20,522 (€23,643)2 h
Heavy Jet6 – 96£23,912 (€27,548)2 h

Bordeaux to Edinburgh: Airport Options

You will find one airport in Bordeaux ready to take care of your private jet charters to Edinburgh.

Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport (BOD)

Bordeaux airport

The airport is 7.4 miles (12 km) west of Bordeaux. The city’s central train station will get you there in 30 minutes. Bordeaux also has an efficient tram network and a new line directly  connecting the city centre to the airport will open later this year (2022). On the other hand, a taxi will take about 30-minutes.

The airport itself is not equipped for VIP travellers. It’s largely been left up to the three FBOs to cater to private charters. However, you’ll be well looked after by any of these three choices since they all offer VIP amenities and services:

  • Aviapartner
  • Signature Flight Support
  • Jetkey

5. New York to Edinburgh

The US has a particular interest in Scotland, and many arrive in Edinburgh to discover their ancestral roots and take in the stunning architecture and scenery.

You won’t find many business travellers on this route; most Americans head to Edinburgh for leisure purposes. A semi-long-haul flight taking just under six and a half hours, you will be most comfortable on a midsize jet travelling here. This option costs £66,696 ($75,474).

New York to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

The turboprop and light jets don’t have the range to cope with this flight, so you will have to decide between the midsize and heavy jets for this route.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Aircraft TypeNo of passengersPriceEstimated flight time
Turboprop4- 19––
Light Jet4 – 11––
Midsize Jet6 – 10£66,696 ($75,474)6 h 20 mins

New York to Edinburgh: Airport Options

Two airports are available in New York that cater to international flights:

  • John F. Kennedy (JFK)
  • Teterboro Airport (TEB)

John F. Kennedy (JFK)

New York airport

The famous airport JFK is ten miles (16 km) southeast of Manhattan. Thanks to the traffic, taxis can take up to 90-minutes, so many private flyers prefer the convenience of a five-minute helicopter transfer.

Terminal 4 at JFK is entirely reserved for private flights. There are many VIP facilities, services, boutiques, and fine-dining options here.

Three FBOs are on hand to arrange your private jet charters to Edinburgh.

  • Modern Aviation
  • Sheltair
  • Allied Aviation

Teterboro Airport (TEB)

Located 11 miles (19 km) from Manhattan, Teterboro is the airport of choice for private charters. Since it’s situated in New Jersey, you will pay lower taxes and fees on the cost of your flight, plus it’s quicker to get to from Manhattan than JFK.

A taxi will take around an hour, or opt for a helicopter transfer that takes mere minutes.

The airport itself has lots to offer. Luxurious lounges, high-class boutiques, dining, and a full range of VIP services will make your departure as comfortable as possible.

Four onsite FBOs can arrange your private jet and offer additional exclusive facilities.

  • Signature
  • Jet Aviation
  • Meridian
  • Atlantic Aviation

6. Seattle to Edinburgh

Seattle is a city that oozes coolness. It’s home to Starbucks and boasts a thriving music and arts scene, and is popular with young folk and independent business owners.

After a visit to Seattle, your charter to Edinburgh is best served by a midsize jet. The journey takes a little over eight and a half hours and costs £87,218 ($98,697).

Seattle to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

This long-haul flight deserves comfort which you will find plenty of onboard a midsize or heavy jet.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

The city of Seattle is fairly large, so it has two main airports serving the area:

  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
  • Seattle King County/Boeing Field Intl (BFI)

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Seattle airport

Located 14 miles (23 km) south of Downtown Seattle, the airport is easily reachable by taxi and only takes about 25 minutes. If you’re in a particular hurry, you can organize a helicopter transfer.

The airport has one terminal for general and private aviation. The onsite FBO caters to all private travellers and offers jet charter services:

Seattle King County/Boeing Field Intl

This airport is super close to Downtown Seattle. The five-mile southwards journey only takes 15-minutes by taxi.

There isn’t much information regarding private and VIP services at this airport; however, you can easily find what you’re looking for via one of the three FBOs that are based here.

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Modern Aviation

7. Tokyo to Edinburgh

Tokyo is a crazy busy city for both business and leisure. One of the most populated cities in the world, Tokyo never sleeps and offers non-stop entertainment wherever you look.

It’s not surprising that many Tokyo-based individuals like to escape to the calm and tranquility of the Scottish countryside. The heavy jet is the only option here as this is a long-haul flight of eleven and a half hours. The cost for this route is £137,494 (23,161,895 JPY).

Tokyo to Edinburgh: Pricing Options

The heavy jet offers the best in-flight services and onboard amenities. For a long-haul flight, comfort is a top priority and you’ll certainly get it with the heavy jet.

The prices below are based on the Nicholas Air  Blue Jet card rates when you purchase a 60-hour package. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Tokyo to Edinburgh: Airport Options

Tokyo

Tokyo is a huge city, so you have two large airports to go with it:

  • Haneda Airport (OTA)
  • Narita Airport (NRT)

Haneda Airport

Tokyo’s main airport is situated 18 miles (30 km) southwest of the city’s central area. A train journey to the airport takes only 30-minutes. A taxi isn’t recommended here due to the congestion it has to navigate. For extra speed, try a helicopter charter.

Haneda has a dedicated terminal for private charters, and here you will find plenty of high-quality services and amenities to take advantage of. Furthermore, five FBOs can arrange your private jet charters to Edinburgh:

  • JAL Business Services
  • Universal Aviation
  • Japan Airport Ground Handling
  • Japan Airport Terminal Co
  • IASS Company

Narita Airport

Located 37 miles (60 km) east of central Tokyo, Narita can be reached in about an hour by direct train. You can also arrange a helicopter shuttle to this airport.

Narita has a dedicated private terminal for business and VIP flyers. You can take advantage of a full array of private jet services and VIP amenities here. Or, if you prefer, you can head to one of the two FBOs and arrange your private charter from there.

  • JAL Business Aviation
  • Universal Aviation

Which Jets Can Fly You To Edinburgh?

There are plenty of options when choosing which jet to fly to Edinburgh. The turboprop and light jets are ideal for a short hop, while the midsize and heavy jets are preferred for longer distances.

Let’s look at them more closely, and mention some of my favorite models.

Turboprops

A turboprop is perfect for short distances and travelling between cities in the same country. Although they don’t have a long range of travel (1,500 miles / 2414 km on average) and at roughly 300 knots, they’re the slowest type of aircraft; they are the most economical choice.

The added advantage of turboprops is that they are built to handle short runways.

The Pilatus PC-12 is an excellent turboprop with an accessible in-flight cargo area. Accommodating nine passengers, this economical aircraft can handle short runways with ease.

Light Jets

Despite being similar in size, a light jet is faster and more powerful than a turboprop. They can travel up to 1,700 miles (2735 km) range and reach speeds of around 400 knots. Again, they’re only suitable for short distances, and although they cost a little more, they are considerably faster than a turboprop.

Try the Cessna Citation M2 for size. It has a 1580 nm range and even features an onboard restroom. The wide cabin has ample foot and headroom and can accommodate up to seven passengers.

Midsize – Super Midsize Jets

private jet interior

A midsize jet is a powerful and comfortable choice. With an average max speed of 460 knots and a range of 2,200 (3,540 km), these aircraft are ideal for more extended and semi-long-haul flights. You’ll find a more spacious cabin on these jets, along with more facilities and luggage space.

The Cessna Citation Sovereign boasts up to six hours of flight time and has the most significant luggage space out of all jets in this category. Seating up to eight passengers, the cabin is comfortable and features an onboard restroom.

Heavy Jets

Heavy jets can really go the distance. They’re built for long-haul routes and generally have all the luxury facilities to ensure maximum comfort. You will find spacious cabins, restrooms, and ample room for luggage on these planes.

The largest jet in the Bombardier range is the Challenger 850. This aircraft has an exceptional range of 2292 nm and seats up to 16 passengers. You will also find washrooms and hot and cold food facilities on this aircraft.

Conclusion

You have plenty of options for your private jet charter to Edinburgh, so you’re spoiled for choice. Whether it’s a short hop from elsewhere in the UK or further afield, the perfect jet option is waiting for you.
