The capital of the province of Ontario, the biggest city in Canada, and the fourth largest in North America, Toronto is a popular choice for private jetters for a number of reasons. This big cosmopolitan and multicultural city, with a population that amounts to nearly three million, welcomes people from all around the world.

The only Canadian city with an NBA team — the Toronto Raptors — the capital of Ontario is the de facto centre of sports, business, culture, and tourism. It offers everything and anything, from great accommodation and tasty restaurants to popular locations for visitors.

Being an important business and technological hub, including an important stock exchange centre, makes Toronto a popular destination for businessmen from Canada, America, and the rest of the world. And these are the most popular private jet charters to this amazing city:

  • Ottawa
  • New York City
  • Washington
  • Chicago
  • Mexico City
  • London
  • Frankfurt

1. Private Charter: Ottawa to Toronto

The flight from the capital of Canada to the biggest city in Canada is quite short. The 360 kilometres translates between 45 minutes and an hour and 10 minutes flight — depending on the jet. For this route, we recommend the turboprop or the light jet.

Ottawa to Toronto: Pricing Options

The prices are quite low too — the lowest on our list of charters. The heavy jet, which is the most expensive option, doesn’t exceed more than 26 000 Canadian dollars, or around 16 000 pounds.

The prices for all the routes are based on the EvoJets hourly rates. Note that other private charter companies might have lower or higher prices, depending on the company.

Ottawa to Toronto: Airport Options

Being the capital of Canada has a lot of perks, including a large number of airports in the area. Namely, Ottawa has more than 10 airports to offer, but we recommend the following four, as we think that they are the most suitable for flying privately:

  • Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport
  • Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport
  • Arnprior Airport
  • Carp Airport

Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport

Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport is located just 24 kilometres from Downtown Ottawa. The airport offers many different things, but it’s mostly famous for its restaurants, car rentals, and the interesting Vintage Wings of Canada with its historical aircraft collection. We mostly recommend renting a car or catching a cab to reach the airport in no time. The average taxi fare amounts to around 205 Canadian dollars, or 120 pounds.

There are two FBOs offering their services at Gatineau-Ottawa:

  • FBO
  • Airport Executif Gatineau Ottawa

Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport

Ottawa international airport

Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier is the busiest airport in the wider Ottawa area, and the 7th busiest in Canada. A former military base, it’s located just 13 kilometres from the city centre, and it’s quite easy to reach. The usual cost of a taxi is 123 Canadian Dollars or 73 pounds.

The three FBOs that take care of the handling of private jets at this airport are:

  • Skyservice Business Aviation
  • Ottawa Flying Club
  • Innotech-Execaire/Shell Aerocentre

Each of them offer different amenities and services, but all of them are more than suitable for taking care of you and your private jet.

Arnprior Airport

Arnprior Airport is a little further from downtown Ontario, being closer to a town called Arnprior, Ontario. The 67 kilometres to Ontario centre amount to around a 45 minute ride by taxi. It’ll cost you no more than 137 Canadian dollars or 80 pounds.

There’s only one FBO offering its services at Arnprior airport:

  • So Renfrew Municipal Airport.

Carp Airport

Carp Airport is the only airport in the Ottawa region with private hangar space. That makes it especially attractive for general aviation pilots. It’s located around 40 kilometres from Ottawa, and the average taxi fare amounts to 76 Canadian dollars or 45 pounds.

We couldn’t locate an FBO at this airport.

2. Private Charter: New York City to Toronto

There are only 550 kilometres from the Big Apple to Ottawa, which amounts to (on average) an hour and a half flight, making it quite suitable for renting a smaller type of jet, like a turboprop or a light jet. You don’t need to rent the bigger ones, unless you’re planning to travel with a big party.

New York City to Toronto: Pricing Options

The prices are similar to those for the Toronto-Ottawa flight. The heavy jet, for example, is even cheaper, and the price for a turboprop is below 8 000 US pounds. For more detailed prices in relation to the jets, check the table below. The prices are presented both in UK pounds and Canadian dollars.

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to TorontoEstimated flight time
Turboprop9From £7,800 ($12,983)1 h 55 min
Light Jet9From £9,800 (16,196)1 h 10 min
Midsize Jet10From £11,200 ($18,471)1 h 10 min
Heavy Jet96From £16,900 ($27,841)1 h

New York City to Toronto: Airport Options

Being one of the transport and aircraft centres of the world means having a lot of airports. There are around 12 airports in the wider New York City area, but we recommend the following three as the most suitable for receiving private jets:

  • John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • Teterboro Airport
  • Westchester County Airport

John F. Kennedy International Airport

New York JFK airport

Definitely the most famous airport in the USA, JFK is located just 26 kilometres from the city centre of New York, Manhattan. It’s connected to the city by the special JFK Expressway, that’ll get you from Madison Square Garden to the airport in no time. You can travel the distance by a rental, a taxi, a bus, or a shuttle.

There are three great FBOs offering their services at JFK. All of them offer something distinctive: Modern Aviation is a corporate giant, Sheltair has a long tradition, being in the business since 1963, and Allied Aviation are especially proud of their work ethic.

Teterboro Airport

In our opinion, Teterboro Airport is the best choice if you want to travel by private jet. That’s the case, because of two things: first, it’s quite close to the centre of New York, only 19 kilometres by car; second, because it’s very private, and particularly popular for private and business-oriented customers. It’s not that crowded either, servicing around 488 flights annually.

The number of FBOs also guarantees its readiness for receiving and servicing private jets. Namely, there are four of them:

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Meridian Teterboro
  • Jet Aviation
  • Atlantic Aviation

Westchester County Airport

Westchester County Airport is another great choice for flying privately, but the furthest away from Manhattan, the distance amounting to around 50 kilometres by car. On the other hand, it’s definitely the quietest airport in the area, maintaining six noise abatement programs every day.

We think that this small trivia fact will make a difference for some private jet users: Westchester Airport is probably the most filmed airport in America, providing the background for some Hollywood classics, such as The Best Man, Random Hearts, and Meet The Parents.

There are four FBOs taking care of the handling and offering various amenities at the airport:

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Million Air White Plains
  • NetJets
  • Ross Aviation

All of them are great, but if you’re looking for a more luxurious experience, pick Million Air White Plains, since they specialize in servicing VIP clients.

3. Private Charter: Washington to Toronto

The distance between the second capital on our list — Washington DC, and Toronto is almost identical to the distance from Ottawa to Toronto: around 550 kilometres. It’s quite a short flight because Washington is very close to the border of Canada. All types of jets are at your disposal, it all depends on the number of people you’re planning to bring with you.

Washington to Toronto: Pricing Options

Consequently, the prices are basically similar in comparison to the flight from Ottawa. The smaller types of jets are most affordable, and the heavy jet doesn’t exceed 17 000 pounds. Check the detailed prices in the table below: the prices are presented both in UK pounds and Canadian dollars.

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to LondonEstimated flight time
Turboprop9From £7,500 ($12,448)1 h 45 min
Light Jet9From £9,300 ($15,393)1 h 5 min
Midsize Jet10From £10,500 ($17,401)1 h
Heavy Jet96From £16,900 ($27,841)55 min

Washington to Toronto: Airport Options

The capital of America is used to receiving both national and international tourists. It’s an important political and touristic destination, and is more than suitable for servicing private jets as many diplomats, businessmen, and politicians travel privately. That being taken into consideration, Washington DC has three fully equipped airports:

  • Ronald Reagan National Airport
  • Washington Dulles
  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

Ronald Reagan National Airport

Washington airport

Named after the famous actor turned president, Ronald Reagan National Airport is the main flight hub in the Washington area, mostly used for domestic flights. If you are not a fan of noise, it’s the perfect choice for you, since it has very tight noise regulations. Finally, Ronald Reagan Airport is very close to the centre of the city, only eight kilometres, or 15 minutes away by car.

There is only one FBO at the airport offering you their undivided attention, namely the everpresent American aviation giant:

  • Signature Flight Support

Washington Dulles

Washington Dulles, on the other hand, is mostly about international flights. It’s a little further away from the city centre (45 kilometres), but you can cover that distance with a taxi in no more than 40 minutes. The usual price of that ride would amount to around 70 dollars.

Two FBOs operate at the Washington Dulles airport. They handle charter and offer different kinds of amenities and services:

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Jet Aviation

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

Thurgood Marshall Airport is the third airport in the wider Washington area. It’s closer to Baltimore than to Washington, though, the distance to the former amounting to 14 kilometres, and to the latter around 48 kilometres. A taxi will cost you approximately 90 dollars, and you’ll reach the airport from downtown DC in about an hour.

The BWI Business District, which is adjacent to the airport, is there to organize and formalize all the services operating at the airport, from accommodation to shopping.

Speaking about FBOs, there’s only one offering its services at Thurgood Marshall Airport, namely Signature Flight Support.

4. Private Charter: Chicago to Toronto

The windy city is one of the most populous and most important American cities in terms of economy and education. Speaking informally, it’s quite similar to Toronto: both of them aren’t capitals, but are quite big and important. The flight, again, is not very long, since the distance amounts to around 700 kilometres. Even if you’re flying with a turboprop, you won’t spend more than two hours in the jet.

Chicago to Toronto: Pricing Options

The prices, too, are almost the same as the previous two flights. The cheapest jet costs little more than 8 000 pounds, and the heavy jet is around 17 000 pounds. For more detailed prices (presented both in UK pounds and Canadian dollars) and flight time, check the table below.

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to TorontoEstimated flight time
Turboprop9From £9,200 ($15,259)2 h
Light Jet9From £10,200 ($16,865)1 h 15 min
Midsize Jet10From £11,700 ($19,275)1 h 10 min
Heavy Jet96From £16,900 ($27,841)1 h

Chicago to Toronto: Airport Options

Chicago is one of the most visited cities in America, receiving more than  50 million people every year. That’s a tough burden to bear, and that’s why the “windy city” is equipped with no less than six airports (in comparison, Washington has only three).

  • Chicago Executive
  • Chicago O’Hare
  • Chicago Rockford
  • Chicago DuPage
  • Chicago Midway
  • Gary Chicago

Chicago Executive

Located around 30 kilometres from the city, Chicago Executive airport is quite popular among private jetters. With almost 77,000 take-offs annually, it’s the fourth busiest airport in the state of Illinois.

The big names offering their services are witness to the quality of the airport. The big fishes, listed in no particular order, are:

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Atlantic Aviation
  • Hawthorne Global Aviation

Chicago O’Hare

Chicago O-Hare airport

O’Hare is by far the busiest airport in the wider Chicago area, and fourth busiest in the world, servicing more than 54 million passengers annually. Also, since 2022, it’s the world’s most connected airport, working with almost all countries of the world. Usually, you can reach the airport in around 40 minutes by car, but on a good traffic day, you can accomplish the deed in 25 minutes.

There’s only one FBO offering its services at Chicago O’Hare, namely the giant Signature Flight Support.

Chicago Rockford

Located around 145 kilometres from downtown Chicago, and closer to Rockford, Illinois, lies Chicago Rockford airport. It’s mostly used by leisure oriented passengers, but it’s quite busy too, being the third busiest airport in the state of Illinois. If you don’t mind a longer drive (around an hour and a half), Chicago Rockford is a great choice for flying privately.

Again, there’s only one FBO offering its services — Emery Air Inc.

Chicago Midway

Going strong for almost a hundred years (it started working in 1927!), Chicago Midway served as the primary Chicago airport before the opening of Chicago O’Hare in 1957. It’s the second busiest airport in the state of Illinois, and quite close to the centre of Chicago. You can travel 19 kilometres in less than 30 minutes by taxi.

There are two FBOs handling everything and anything about private jets in Chicago Midway:

  • Signature Flight Support;
  • Atlantic Aviation.

Gary Chicago

A joint civil-military public airport, Gary Chicago is located around 40 kilometres from the centre of Chicago. It’s listed as a “non-primary commercial service” airport, handling around four and a half thousand passengers annually.

Two FBOs are sharing their load of handling private jets at Gary Chicago:

  • B. Coleman Aviation;
  • Gary Jet Centre Inc.

5. Private Charter: Mexico City to Toronto

The first intercontinental flight on our list (from North to Central America) amounts to around 3,200 kilometres, or between four and five hours spent in the air. The turboprop is no longer an option for a flight of this kind, so you’ll have to stick to the other three options.

Mexico City to Toronto: Pricing Options

The prices of the charter are immediately doubled. You’ll find more detailed pricing in Mexican pesos and Canadian dollars in the table below,

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to LondonEstimated flight time
Turboprop9––
Light Jet9From £34,600 (CAD 57,000)5 h 15 min
Midsize Jet10From £37,500 (CAD 61,171)4 h 40 min
Heavy Jet96From £46,600 (CAD 76,029)4 h 5 min

Mexico City to Toronto: Airport Options

Mexico City is both one of the most populous and most densely populated cities in the world, and a major tourist attraction. It attracts millions of visitors every year. In order to service them all, there are three major airports in the wider area — all three of them are more than suitable for receiving private jets. They are:

  • Mexico City International Airport
  • Felipe Ángeles International Airport
  • Toluca International Airport

Mexico City International Airport

Mexico city airport

The sixth busiest airport in the world is located only 8 kilometres away from Mexico City’s centre. You can cross the distance in many ways, since buses, cars, authorized taxis, trolleys, and trains are all available.

The situation with the FBOs is quite interesting, since there are a lot of them at Mexico City International airport. We list them all, in no particular order:

  • Aeroméxico Servicios
  • Aeroservicios Especializados
  • Alfa 4
  • ASMCORP
  • Azteca Handling Services
  • Consorcio Aviation
  • Menzies Aviation
  • Passenger Handling Services

Felipe Ángeles International Airport

Felipe Angeles International Airport is a newly-constructed airport that’s supposed to take over the burden of Mexico City International Airport in the years to come. The airport is only two years old, and still expanding: that’s why it’s slightly smaller than the main airport. There’s a railway under construction, which should finish this year (2023). In the meantime, you can reach its premises by a rental, a taxi, or a bus.

There’s only one FBO offering its services at Felipe Ángeles International Airport, namely the airport itself.

Toluca International Airport

The smallest one in the wider Mexico City area, for years it has been the second option to Mexico City airport. It’s mainly used for corporate and business flights, since there are only 40 kilometres from the famous Santa Fe business district to Toluca Airport.

Again, there are a lot of FBO functioning at this airport. Here they are, listed in no particular order:

  • Eolo Plus
  • Universal Aviation
  • FBO Across Signature
  • CENTURY AVIATION FBO
  • Servicios Aereos Estrella
  • S.A. De C.V
  • ICCS Toluca FBO
  • Jetex Toluca
  • Lic. Adolfo López Mateos International Airport
  • Aeromaan
  • Servicios Integrales de Aviación d/b/a FlyMex
  • Avemex

6. Private Charter: London to Toronto

There are more than 5 700 kilometres from the capital of England to the biggest city in Canada. Since you’ll be spending more than nine hours in the air, the heavy jet is the only option possible. The smaller jets are not suited for flying distances that large as they require multiple stops for refuelling.

London to Toronto: Pricing Options

We are in the realm of high prices. You won’t find any jet that’ll take you from London to Toronto for less than 100 000 pounds, or 120 000 Canadian dollars.

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to LondonEstimated flight time
Turboprop9––
Light Jet9––
Midsize Jet10––

London to Toronto: Airport Options

If you are travelling from the Old to the New continent, or vice versa, you’ll probably land or take off from London. As everybody knows, the Big Smoke is a major transport hub, particularly useful for intercontinental and overseas flights. Also, it has a long tradition of safety protocols and servicing high end clients — a perfect combination if you want to use a private jet.

London has a lot of airports in its wide area, but these three are particularly suitable in this context:

  • Luton Airport
  • Stansted Airport
  • Heathrow Airport

Luton Airport

Luton airport

Luton is quite an old airport, doing its business since before World War II, or 1938. It’s located around 45 kilometres from the centre of London. You can travel that distance by many means, such as a car, a train or a bus, and you can reach it in around half an hour.

There are four fixed-base operators at Luton Airport:

  • Signature Flight Support
  • Harrods Aviation
  • Sheltair Aviation
  • Allied Aviation

Stansted Airport

Slightly further away from Luton, Stansted Airport is located around 70 kilometres from the Big Ben. Don’t be afraid of the few extra kilometres — the roads and the transport options are really well developed in the UK. That being said, you can travel the distance in less than an hour.

There are a lot of FBOs at Stansted Airport. Universal Aviation is the oldest one, doing its job for more than 30 years. You can expect all kinds of services and amenities from them, but also a high level of professionalism and work ethics. If, on the other hand, you want to go a different way, you can choose one of the four others, listed in no particular order:

  • Fayair
  • North Air Limited
  • Diamond Hanger
  • Harrods Aviations
  • Inflite Jet Centre

Heathrow Airport

Everybody knows something about Heathrow Airport, since it’s the best, the biggest, and the busiest in the wider London area. Going strong since 1966, it’s listed as the seventh busiest airport in the world. Also, Heathrow is the closest to the centre of London: just 22 kilometres away from Oxford Street.

There’s one more important bonus: the airport is quite near (almost adjacent) to the Royal Air Force (RAF) base, which means a lot of extra security.

As is the case in the UK, Heathrow offers a lot of fixed-base operators that can do the handling of your charter in every way possible. The precise number of FBOs is eight, including some of the big fish in the aircraft business:

  • Universal Aviation
  • Meridian Teterboro
  • Ross Aviation
  • Signature Flight Support
  • Sheltair
  • Jet Aviation
  • Greenwood Lake Aviation
  • Lynx FBO Network

7. Private Charter: Frankfurt to Toronto

There are around 6,300 kilometres between the economic and culture centre of Germany, and the biggest city in Canada. Frankfurt is a very old, cultured, and developed city, and offers great opportunities for renting a private jet. Generally speaking, the almost 10 hours spent on the plane are quite worth it.

Frankfurt to Toronto: Pricing Options

The longest flight on our list is quite pricey too: since all the small jets are out of the picture, and the heavy jets are quite expensive, you just can’t rent anything at a lower price. The bare minimum is around 110 000 UK pounds, or 134 000 Canadian dollars.

Aircraft TypeMax no of passengersAverage price to TorontoEstimated flight time
Turboprop9––
Light Jet9––
Midsize Jet10––
Heavy Jet96From £110,000 ($133,900)9 h 40 min

Frankfurt to Toronto: Airport Options

The area around Frankfurt has two airports that work with both domestic and international flights. Both of them are more than capable of servicing private jets, and you can choose either one. Your choice is between:

  • Frankfurt Airport
  • Frankfurt Hahn

Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt main airport

Located just 14 kilometres from the city centre, Frankfurt airport is the busiest institution of its kind in the whole of Germany. According to 2018 statistics, it services around 70 million people annually. As the transport system in Germany is one of the best in the world, you can reach the airport from the city in many different ways: bus, car, train, etc. There’s a computer rail line that immediately connects to terminal 1.

There are two FBOs offering their services at Frankfurt Airport:

  • Fas Frankfurt Aviation Service
  • BACF-Business Aviation Centre

Frankfurt Hahn

Frankfurt Hahn is not actually in Frankfurt, but serves as its second, cheaper option. It’s a great choice if you want to save some money, or get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger Frankfurt Airport.

Again, there are two FBOs at Frankfurt Hahn that do the handling of private charters:

  • HNA Airport Services GmbH
  • Flughafen

Which Jets Can Fly You To Toronto?

As in every other case, the choice of jet depends on the distance and the flight time between point A of departure and point B of landing. If the distance is short, then you can settle for a smaller aircraft, like a turboprop or a light jet. If, on the other hand, the flight is either intercontinental or overseas, you’ll have to choose one of the heavier types.

Turboprops

Turboprops are your obvious choice if you’re traversing a short distance and have to spend a small number of hours on the plane. They are the smallest, the least durable, and the slowest jets: needing to refuel every 2 400 kilometres and can reach a top speed 450 kilometres an hour. That being said, they’re quite cheap and worth the money. The first four flights on our list are perfect for renting a turboprop, since none of them exceeds the two-hour mark spent in the air.

Extremely popular for short, or even mid-range trips, the Italian-made Piaggio Avanti is the turboprop model we mostly recommend. Also, it’s one of the quietest models of its type, and if you prefer a peaceful flight, it’s the perfect choice for you.

Light Jets

Learjet

Light jets are another great option for close-proximity travel, like flights from Ottawa, New York City, Washington, or Chicago. It’s slightly more durable and faster than a turboprop, and it’s especially suitable for business flights. It can fly for around 2,735 kilometres without needing to stop, and can reach a max top speed between 700 and 850 km/h.

We recommend the Citation Ultra because it has a powerful engine and great performances. Namely, it’s an update of the very popular Citation V private jet. A better version of something already quite good is really a great choice.

Midsize – Super Midsize Jets

The flight that is the middle spot on our list — namely the New Mexico Charter — is perfect for utilizing the servicing of a midsize jet. They’re slightly bigger, faster, and more durable than light jets, but not as big, fast, and durable as heavy jets. They can fly without needing to refuel for approximately 3,540 kilometres, or around five hours.

We recommend the Citation Latitude. It’s a typical midsize jet that can carry up to ten people, has a lot of extra space, and different amenities. It offers a fast, safe, and comfortable flight.

Heavy Jets

If you’re planning to spend eight to ten hours on a plane, you should definitely stick to a heavy jet. Speaking directly, they’re your only logical choice, since they are durable enough to endure an intercontinental or an overseas flight. The charters from London or Frankfurt to Toronto are an obvious choice for a heavy jet. They can fly more than 10 000 kilometres without needing to refuel.

Falcon 900EX is another upgrade of a proven model — the Falcon 900 — and provides everything that a real heavy jet should provide: great amenities, a lot of space, and a safe, comfortable, and fast flight.

Conclusion

The biggest town in Canada is a popular choice for private jetters. There are a lot of airports in the region of the city — some of them quite big and developed — and Toronto is interconnected to the rest of the world in a profound way. You can fly to this city from almost everywhere in the world, no matter the continent or the country.
